The Holiday before The Holiday?!?!
Since Canada Day falls on a Tuesday this year it's awkward to go to work on Monday and then have Tuesday off. It's makes much more sense to take the Monday off and have a long weekend (or a long start of the week). Friends of ours from church also had the same arrangement so we planned on doing something together - hoping to go to the beach. Well, the weather was definitely not swimming weather (20 degrees and overcast), so we opted for a hike instead. We ended up driving to the Beaver Valley and hiking a section of the Bruce Trail. It is absolutely gorgeous in this area, very hilly and scenic. The section we hiked was called 'Old Baldy' and it gave us all a beautiful lookout over the valley. Since it didn't look like this part of the trail was very well labeled, there also wasn't much in the way of barriers to the 100 ft. cliff face we were on top of. With their seven children and our four we had to be all 'eyes' on which kid was where. The men are not so cautious and liked leaning over the edge to scare us all. Soon all the daring children were trying to do the same. I sure was glad when we finally hiked down! It's so neat to discover these places that are not too far from our home. I told Colin that he just has to be happy with hiking these kinds of 'mountains' and to pretend it was Mount Garibaldi instead of Old Baldy :)
Eugenia Falls - very cute falls on the escarpment.
The road through the valley.
A beautiful butterfly on the trail to the lookout.
At the top looking over the valley.
Talisman Ski Resort in the summer.
The rock precipice.
Looking over at 'Old Baldy' through the car window on our way home.
