Frontenac Provincial Park

Last Wednesday our family and our friends from Elmira, left for a four day, three night wilderness canoe trip. Kevin and Joyce had gone with us once before and just loved it. Now they wanted to go again and this time introduce their children to this wonderful outdoors experience. So, it was a family affair this time around. We left bright and early Wednesday morning (5:30am) to beat Toronto traffic but still managed to hit some slow downs. After we got through the city we stopped for a nice breakfast before heading on our way again. We made it to the park at 12pm and quickly ate lunch and unloaded all our gear. The amount of gear is quite impressive and the fact that between a kayak and a canoe, we were able to fit all of our family's gear into the two boats is even more impressive. We no longer all fit in the canoe comfortably on these trips so this time we rented a tandem kayak. It was a lot of fun and the kids enjoyed trying out a different type of boat. I must say that I still prefer a canoe though! We had quite good weather with some rain through one of the nights and one dreary afternoon. This didn't stop the kids from doing lots of swimming and exploring. The girls were even so brave as to go cliff jumping. They just loved it and couldn't get enough of it! It was great to be able to see them put their swimming skills to the test.
This was another successful canoe trip and although it's a lot of work with little kids, it sure is worth it! The kids are getting more experienced (and older :) at this type of camping, which does make it somewhat easier. Silas was the most work of course, as it's pretty hard to be stable while walking on roots and rocks. During our entire time there he could not stop saying, "boat - water". His favourite place was to be in the canoe with Colin - just goes to show you that it's good to start 'em early :)

Looks like great fun! I can't figure out what you mean by a "tandem canoe" though, all I see see is the good old gray one. ??
