Getting into shape!
Our first holiday adventure took place this morning at Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre, close to Silver Star ski area. We first tried our hand at cross country skiing and skied 3.5 km on a nice, groomed trail. We are both not terribly out of shape but that's what you call exercise! You never see a fat person at a cross country ski centre! We then traded in our skis for a set of snow shoes. We found this to be much easier going although after finishing a 4km trail in an hour and a half, we were tired. Much of the trail we had to pack down as it had snowed 15 more centimetres the night before. Add to this the ups and downs of being in a mountainous area, and you've got yourself a good workout. The scenery was beautiful and the amount of snow, incredible! Again, here are the pics to prove it:
Cruisin' down the hills.
Colin looking like a pro.
Using the right equipment - these snowshoes worked great!
The evergreens looking like giant snow ghosts.
Proof of the large amount of snow.
A view of the town of Vernon on the way back down Silver Star Mountain.

1 Comments:
*ahem* I'm a large person and I cross-country ski ;-)
It's a great workout indeed.
