Victoria Day
The May long weekend in Ontario was unseasonably warm this year. On the holiday Monday we took the opportunity to enjoy a day out in nature. We compiled our plans with friends of ours, and off we set on an adventure! Our first stop was a section of the Bruce Trail close to a town called Singhampton. This section had some really neat caves that we could go exploring in. Although it was treacherous at times, the kids had a blast climbing and jumping on the rocks.
Waiting for all the adults to make the trek down. (Kids are way more agile at these things.)
An impressive rock wall.
Trying to keep warm down in the hole.
Most of the kids.
Proof of the cold temperature in the caves - snow!
Our big hiker, Silas, on the Bruce Trail.
Then it was off to Eugenia Lake to cool down. There we had our picnic lunch and unloaded the canoes we had brought with. Last year I scored on Kijiji by finding a used Swift Kipawa canoe for sale. Colin had been eying that particular canoe for some time and it was providence that I happened to find it only an hour after it had been posted (these canoes are in high demand). Of course, this was in the Fall when our canoeing trips were done for the year, so it not yet been put to the test. We had never been to this lake before but it was a perfect location for testing the seaworthiness of our new boat. It passed the test with flying colours and Colin was so pleased that he can now carry the canoe by himself. We also took our grey aluminum boat with as it is still great for kids - which there were a lot of :)
Silas and Naomi enjoying the sights at the lake.
Our new blue canoe won the race!
The 'prego' mama giving it a try.
Just a nice dragonfly.
Anna jumping off the dock; right next to the sign that says, "No jumping from end of dock." Don't worry she wasn't disobeying it on her own, Colin had previously jumped and told Anna to give it a try.
Silas and Reuben practicing their paddling skills.

Wow, looks like a lot of fun was had by all. A great place for a hike, though a little scary at times me thinks :o)
The new canoe looks nice as well but that means more work for you, doesn't it ? I guess that's what you like doing !!
Thanks for a great post, and pictures.
