In the Middle of Nowhere

making memories in the country

On Friday evening Colin and I went out for dinner to The Keg, something that we have not done in a very long time. We left around 5 pm and and had the whole evening to ourselves. We really should do this more often as this was a long time coming. With Colin's busy season behind us, we could finally relax and enjoy each other's company without him thinking about work. After our dinner we did some shopping for household things and then drove down to where we used to live in Kitchener. It was so neat reminiscing about the times we lived in our apartment and the streets we used to go for walks on. It seems so long ago that we lived there but its only been six years. We also went for a walk in Uptown Waterloo and enjoyed looking at all the new development in this part of town. We came home to find that everything had gone well with the babysitter except for an incident with the ketchup bottle. Anna was trying to carry a very full, family size, ketchup bottle to the table when the lid popped off and she dropped the whole bottle. It ended up bursting on the tile floor with ketchup being splattered everywhere. The babysitter did an excellent job cleaning it up but there was no ketchup left for their supper!

Saturday was a very busy day (isn't it always?) with lots of running around and company in the evening. Anna had been asked by her music teacher if she could come to the music school at lunchtime to do a little demonstration. Her classes are over but the teacher always holds an open house in the Spring to show prospective students and parents what the classes are like. This was a nice honour for Anna and she had fun showing others what she's learned.
In the evening we had my cousin Maria, husband Dave and children Levi and Avery over for supper. They live quite a distance away so we don't get together as often as we'd like but we always enjoy each other's company. It was still very warm out so the kids had fun jumping through the sprinkler and playing with the hose.

Avery and Bethany being little stinkers!

After the kids were in bed we enjoyed a game of Settlers and Seafarers of Catan. Of course the game ended up going later then we thought and Dave and Maria had a very late drive home. I guess it's worth it if you don't do it that often.

We had a quiet Sunday lunchtime as Anna went away for lunch. This has become a regular occurrence as almost every Sunday she either has a friend over or goes to someone else's house. Naomi then gets upset that she doesn't get to go anywhere but she is too shy to venture out on her own. She's still a little young for it too so we try to do something special with her at home then. This time she got to help me make our traditional tuna melts. I've lately abandoned the soup tradition and started making tuna melts for lunch. Sometimes I feel like it's too hot to make soup and besides, all my vegetable packs in the freezer are gone so it takes a little more work to make it. Tuna is good for you too, so I thought this would be a good way to introduce the kids to it.

Quite proud of her accomplishment!
