Action-packed Weekend

This past weekend was a busy but fun one for the whole family. It started Friday afternoon after school when we headed to Toronto with some friends to see the Blue Jays play at the Skydome. Our friends had gotten free tickets and decided to invite us along with them. Their older girls stayed home and babysat Bethany and Silas while three of their children along with Anna and Naomi got the privilege of attending the big game. After we fought some rush hour traffic, we finally arrived at Yorkdale Mall where we could conveniently hop on the subway train to downtown. It's about a twenty minute ride to Union Station where we got off and walked the rest of the way. It turned out that we had great seats; first row on the second deck. The game went by quite fast but the Blue Jays won (for once :) 5-0 over the Seattle Mariners. The kids were just amazed at the size of the stadium and had lots to feast their eyes on when they got bored of the baseball. Needless to say, after taking the subway back to the van and driving home, it was a late night.

The CN Tower juts out from beside the Skydome. It soon got dark and very cold as they never closed the roof for the entire game.

A picture to show how big the Skydome is.

Naomi, Alexandra and Anna having a great time - I've never heard three girls giggle and laugh so much.

Watching Roy Halliday deliver one of his great pitches. He's currently one of the best pitchers in the league.

Our cheering squad never did make it up on the Jumbotron :)

Staring out the front of the subway train into a black tunnel. How fun is that?!?

Then on Saturday we had my cousin and her family visit for the day. It was more than a pleasant visit this time as we put Dave to work. We had one tree in the front yard and lots of trees in the bush that need to come down for future firewood. All of our firewood for this winter is already in the house ready for the snow to fly but we also need to start thinking about two-three winters away. It's good to keep on top of it so the wood has a chance to season and dry out. Well, Colin and Dave sure had a tiring day as they each wielded a chainsaw for five hours cutting down two big trees. Even the kids got in on the work by pulling all the leafy limbs to the burn pile. Anyone else want to volunteer to help out for a day?

Putting in the first cut. It had to be done very precisely as this tree was one of the closest to our house (about 30 feet away, and the tree was 80 feet tall!). It wasn't very comforting when Colin told us to stay away from the front windows!

Examining it to make sure...

What a great job - perfectly parallel to the front driveway.

Here's a video of the 'timber' scene:
