Nostalgia & Frugality
Here's a cute story about Bethany's Sunday coat.
When my parents got married they decided to go on their honeymoon to Alberta. They ended up settling in Coaldale and working on a sugar beet farm. It was their intention to return to Ontario after a few years sewing their oats but... a few years turned into ten. They had five of their six children there, one girl and four boys. Those times were not easy financially for my parents, but they made great friends with people from the church who they still keep in contact with today. My Mom had to be creative in her ways to save money and always managed to have her children looking neat and tidy. She was once given an old, ladies faux fur coat that was not her size so she decided to turn into a coat for her oldest daughter, Diane. The result was the cutest fur coat I've ever seen. It was preserved so that I, the youngest in the family, could also benefit from it. Now, over twenty years later, my girls have all had a turn wearing it. They have gotten lots of compliments over it and it seems to be a timeless style. Bethany loves wearing it and calls it her "fluffy coat". It just goes to show you how a little creativity can go a long way!

wow, it's still beautiful after all this rime. Your mom must have really taken good care of it. If that had been me, it would have been chewed up by moths long ago !
it's amazing that it's in such great shape!! How neat for all the girls to wear it yet too.

Very nice job, Mrs. B!
What a great story, and a cute coat too!
Hi Laura,
I am glad that your girls get to benefit from wearing the coat that I wore as a little girl. The coat would actually be about 40 years old! Good workmanship never goes out of style - mom sure did a great job sewing that coat!
Love,Diane
