A 'Gorge' ous Day

It was really mixed weather here this holiday weekend. It started out sunny and cloudy on Friday, then rainy and cold on Saturday and finished with sunny and cool on Monday. We had hoped to get our garden in this weekend but with it being so cool and wet it was not a good idea. Instead, we got a lot of yard work done. On Friday Colin took the afternoon off and together we raked and shoveled the gravel out of the ditch in front of our property. It had been previously raked toward the middle by Colin and some young boys from church but it now needed to be shoveled out. After 3.5 hours and 30 wheel barrow loads, we finally got the job done! I don't know if we'll be doing that every year. It does make the ditch really nice and since we mow it, it makes the whole property look well kept. Oh well, a little hard work never hurt anyone :)
Colin also got a chance to use his chainsaw this weekend. We had one really big limb come down during a wind storm this winter and it needed to be cut up. He spent all of Monday morning working on it and still needs to get the trunk done. You sure can get a lot of wood from one tree!
After all this work, we decided we needed to take a little break. We hadn't done any geocaching this year yet, so we decided to try our hand at it once again. This time we explored the Gorge and did a three stage cache up and around the river. It was a lot of fun and we sure got our exercise hiking up and down the sides of the Gorge.

Kayakers having some fun in the rapids.

Looking at the river from this angle brought back some memories. It's from this location that you can float down the river in an inner tube. You can rent them from the Conservation area and then have a lazy ride down the river. Colin and I did this when we were dating with some friends and family. Sharon will probably remember me yelling, "Big rock, big rock!" when I knew that our bums might get scraped on rock close to the surface. Ah, good memories :)

Standing in a cave of sorts.

Caves in the side of the Gorge.

Looks beautiful! nice to have those family days. I remember you guys going tubing down the river and us standing on a bridge watching you go past. Looked fun. Your kids will have to do that when they get older :o)

And Lindsey clearly remembers the severe friction-rash that comes from paddling/rubbing your arms against rubber for a few hours :) So much fun though.
